U.S. National Spelling Bee in Pohnpei

MAHI International volunteer Jennifer Silva (right) awards Spelling Bee Runner-up Natanya Jim (middle) with a new backpack. Natanya is from our adopted school Pohnlangas Elementary School in Medelinowhm. She is pictured here with her homeroom teacher (left).

MAHI International, in partnership with Rotary Club of Pohnpei and the Talent Search Program, sponsored 15 elementary schools to participate in the U.S. National Spelling Bee. Our involvement included covering registration fees for our adopted schools and conducting school site Spelling Bees. Our purpose was to send one candidate from each adopted school to the State Championship. The winner from the State Championships will go on to compete in the island of Guam for the Regional Championship.

On February 5, the winner from the 15 participating local schools competed for the title of State Champion. MAHI International would like to congratulate our 2 winners from Pohnpei who will be heading to Guam for the March 7 Regional Championship Spelling Bee.
