Volunteers ~ Meet Amy...
Amy Parker
Hello! My name is Amy Parker and I am originally from Vancouver, Canada. From 2003-2005, I volunteered as a teacher at a school in Pohnpei. I was already friends with several members of the Schroer family, but this is when I first heard of John’s plans for MAHI International and saw for myself the needs of the communities in Micronesia.
My experience in Pohnpei also contributed to my decision to pursue a career in public health. In 2008, I enrolled at Tulane University in New Orleans for an MPH in International Health and Development. One of my degree requirements was to complete a 300-hour practicum in my field. I immediately thought of MAHI International and designed a health education practicum which I completed in the summer of 2009.
I received a degree in May 2010 and today am looking forward to my next step in life. My experience with MAHI International gave me some much-needed experience and hopefully gave the local students some much-needed health knowledge.
