Miller Benjamin
We are honored to have Miller Benjamin join our team at MAHI International in the development of our newest program - Professional Growth for Educators.
Mr. Benjamin graduated from Philippine Union College with a BA in English. He taught at PICS, a local high school in Pohnpei, from 1975 to 1980. Within a school year immediately after in 1980, he became the acting principal at the SDA school, a private Christian elementary and secondary school. He taught elementary and high school through the next several years as he studied to receive his Masters in Administration at the University of Hawaii (Manoa) and the University of Guam. While he was teaching classes, he became Vice Principal at the SDA school in 1987 and ultimately became Principal in 1991, serving the school until his retirement in 2010. During his years in the SDA School administration, Miller increased the enrollment from about 300 to well over 500 students due to his development of the campus by building classrooms, more teacher housing, and the cafeteria.
Besides being an educator, Mr. Benjamin loves being in the outdoors to farm his land, hike and jump waterfalls. He is known to be an avid fisherman and is altogether “Mr. Local”. He has been an inspiration to many young people who have been his students and have worked as teachers under him. He holds the respect of his colleagues, is a man of God, and has 6 children with his wife Albery.
Beginning in August, in commencement of the 2011-2012 school year, one of Miller Benjamin’s life’s passions becomes reality as he supports the administration of all the public schools on his island of Pohnpei through workshops, observation, assessment and other support in the education system of his island.
Mr. Benjamin, WELCOME.
